How do you travel between Finland and the 30 largest cities in the world? I listed the fastest and most frequent flight connections:
From Helsinki-Vantaa airport, considerably enlarged with a new parallell runway in 2002. there are direct flights to 10 of the 30 largest cities in the world: Delhi, Shanghai, Moscow, Istanbul, New York, Tokyo, Beijing, London, Bangkok and Guangzhou.
The neighbouring Sweden offers only one excellent connection to one of these 30 cities, via Stockholm: Teheran. In Scandinavia, Copenhagen is a gateway if you’re going to: Lahore (Pakistan) or Wuhan (China).
Germany, mainly Frankfurt, but also Munich, is the point of transit for flights to: Mumbai, Karachi (via Dubai), Lagos, Bangalore, Riyadh and Tianjin (via Shanghai).
France and Paris is a gateway to South America: Bogotá, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. A Dutch connection via Amsterdam takes you to: Lima.
For travel to the Middle East, go through Vienna: Istanbul and Cairo.
Via connections in London or Rome, you’ll get to: Dhaka
Finland’s excellent network in Asia offer many good connections. Via Singapore you reach Jakarta and via Bangkok you’ll get to Guangzhou. The Beijing flights from Helsinki offer connections to Seoul and Wuhan.
The only major city served best via New York is Mexico City.
