I wrote an editorial today about Finnair expanding immensely right now – amidst no competition. In Helsinki, they are the only airline doing intercontinental operations from a relatively small quick-transfer airport at the most NE corner of Europe.

So, the government-majority controlled airline is soaring at the Helsinki Stock Exchange at about a 3x the price compared to pre-9/11. Just some weeks ago, Finnair announced a 2-billion Euro order for up to 11 A330/340/350 aircraft.

Check out why Helsinki geographically has become such a favoured gateway at this little projection (made available to you by Karl Swartz). The shortest flight paths London - Beijing, Frankfurt - Tokyo and Mumbai - New York have been plotted.
